Karen Prescod is PLH Chief Life Officer; a Florida based Health Insurance agency that specializes in small businesses. In addition to FL, Karen is licensed in TX, AZ, NM, IA, OR, PA, OK and UT, as a health insurance agent. Being a Certified Medical Insurance Consultant (CMIC) and a Certified Exchange/Marketplace Specialist (EMS), she strives to educate her clients about the available products and services, to present them with the highest quality care options, to meet their needs. Karen prides herself on helping small businesses understand their options with the Affordable Care Act, as well as teaching them to navigate all of the confusing rules and regulations. You may often find her conducting seminars and holding presentations for companies as to the effects, rules and regulations of the new Health Care Laws. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Karen spent 17 years working for large corporations, where she managed multi-million dollar accounts in the retail and health care arenas.
Born & raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Karen migrated to the US in her early 20’s. Her passion for Martial Arts allowed her to excel in the discipline, and is only one example of her work ethic and dedication. That work ethic, was not only beneficial to her in sports and athletics, but translated to all areas of her life, both personally and professionally. Her success as a business woman and entrepreneur, is matched only by her commitment to the community where she works and resides. Ms. Prescod spends a tremendous amount of time and energy staying active, being vocal and being deeply connected to the organizations and causes that impact the community at large. She not only serves on the board of directors for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, but she sits on the Chamber’s Executive Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange Council (GLBX), where she is the immediate past chair, and was appointed to establish and chair the Chamber’s Women’s Council.
Her leadership and impact is seen and acknowledged by the community. She has been chosen as Fort Lauderdale’s Powerful Women, by Gold Coast Media Group, was awarded the 2016 Chair’s Award (which is presented to the chair that has the most impact in the community), and has been highlighted and featured in multiple media campaigns as a friend and advocate for a variety of groups and organizations represented in the diverse Fort Lauderdale community. As an extension of her dedication and commitment to serve, Karen created Prescod K.I.D.S. a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to fostering the well-being, of children ages 2-18 who suffer with chronic pain.
